Choquequirao Trek

When you think of Peru you instantly think of Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail. Unfortunately so does everyone else. So what do you do if you want to see Inca ruins, go on a hike and not be surrounded by everyone else doing the same thing?

Let me introduce you to the Choquequirao Trek. A 5 day spectacular hike that takes you on a journey through the jungle, along the Apurimac canyon and to the ancient Inca ruins of Choquequirao. Choquequirao is the long lost sister of Machu Picchu. These ruins are actually three times the size of Machu Picchu but only sees around a dozen tourists each day.

Now there is good reason behind why these magnificent Inca ruins are only visited by few travelers each day. That’s because of the challenging 5 day round trip hike all travelers must endure to visit these ruins. This hike is not for the faint hearted as some parts of this hike is steep and you of course are hiking at altitude. You are especially rewarded with almost having the entire Choquequirao ruins at your disposal. Its certainly an experience to explore and soak up the serenity & atmosphere of the ruins. Most of all have the sense of accomplishment of this hard yet rewarding hike.

Some of the best secrets in Peru are off the tourist track and Choquequirao is one of them. The best way to explore Choquequirao is through our 18Day Luxury Adventure Tour to Peru this September 2017.

A Perfect Setting in the Sacred Valley – Peru Hotels

A perfect setting in the Sacred Valley, Peru Hotels

Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba Hotel Review

One of my favourite Peru hotels is the new and exciting Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, located in the heart of the Sacred Valley. This is a perfect hotel to stop, relax and recharge before continuing your journey to Machu Picchu.

This Peru hotels sets the scene of an old historical hacienda with a contemporary twist and a grand entrance. The hotel sits on 100acres and has 12 rooms in the main Casa Hacienda and 24 stand alone luxury casitas with unspoiled views of the magnificent surrounding snow capped mountains, plus a few ultra luxurious owners quarters and suites.

The rooms are rustic and feels like your staying with your old Peruvian family, as soon as you walk through the door you instantly feel relaxed and warm with a spacious room that has been carefully decorated in local Peruvian charm and character. The rooms range from the superior deluxe rooms which have a living room, dining area and colonial style wardrobe, to the Casitas with your own unspoiled views of the surrounding mountains and fireplace to the spacious and extravagant suites and owners quarters where you will certainly feel at home.

Another reason why this Peru hotels stands out is the contribution to sustainability in the area, the Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba has its very own 10 acre organic plantation which all the restaurant food is cooked from and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend booking into the hotels restaurant for dinner as the creations they use from their local produce is mouthwatering.

Below I have put a few pros and cons to help you decide if the Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba is the ideal Sacred Valley Peru hotels for you;

Pros:

  • New contemporary hotel with a rustic charm
  • Stunning location
  • Spacious rooms
  • Reasonable prices for restaurant & rooms
  • Well made Pisco sour
  • Great ambiance in the lobby and bar areas
  • Perfect place for a relaxation day
  • Complimentary activities at the resort
  • Perfect for couples

Cons:

  • Not walking distance to other local restaurants
  • Must book the restaurant for dinner reservations in advance
  • Not ideal for travellers who cant walk uphill or uneven surfaces very well as the hotel is situated on a hill.
